Born and raised in the jungles of South America, Luis Brown was educated in the United States where he received an MBA from the Wharton School of finance. He knows the standards American anglers have come to expect, and he has the experience, local connections and back-country savvy to provide an unparalleled fishing adventure.

Our host has access to virgin rivers and lagoons where large populations of big peacock bass lie untouched. In fact, many of the fish you will cast to have never seen a lure or fly!

Anglers commonly catch 20 to 30 good fish each day. From 3-6 pound butterflies to 10-20 pound "blue" or "spotted" super lunkers, there is always the chance to catch a real monster. The current 27-pound IGFA all-tackle world record came from this region.

The key to this extraordinary fishing is a very fast, very roomy, state-of-the-art Cessna Caravan float plane which allows him to whisk fishermen directly from the Manaus, Brazil airport to pristine locations far from the melee of competing lodges and houseboats. This float plane lands right at the camp or yacht accommodations. There, anglers access unfished waters above natural barriers such as waterfalls and shallow river mouths. The fishing boats are special shallow-draft tunnel types that can freely traverse any level of water, including virtually land-locked lagoons.

The combination of remote fly-in and shallow-draft boats eliminates competition from other people, either sportsmen or native fishermen. It is the reason our guides consistently produce more fish than other outfitters, either on riverboats or fixed barges.

Anglers fish two per boat, with talented Brazilian guides well versed in the nuances of bait casting, spin casting and fly fishing. They speak enough "fishing English" to communicate effectively and, of course, are intimately familiar with the fishing areas and how to find concentrations of peacock bass.

What you won't find here are many pesky bugs. The pristine rivers we fish have naturally high tannin levels, due to extensive rainforest leaf decay which discourages the growth of biting insects and their larvae.

Guests with River Plate have a choice of accommodations: highly mobile camps with comfortable cabins built on individual barges or the 76-foot Amazon Angel motor yacht.

Drawing only about four inches of water, the Cabin Barges are a breakthrough in navigating over shallow water barriers away from fishing pressure. Typically set upon clean white beaches or clean grassy shores, each 12' by 15' barge accommodates two anglers in surprising comfort. The interiors are tastefully decorated and every detail, from linen sheets to individual fans to writing tables to hot shaving water and reading lights, has been carefully selected. Each unit has its own bathroom facility with full water pressure for shower, sink and toilet. Dining, cocktails and lounging take place in a large central structure.

The tri-level Amazon Angel has been carefully designed to please the international angler, with eight air-conditioned staterooms, three large bathrooms with showers, a lovely dining room and separate cocktail salon that are both air-conditioned and an open-air upper deck with grill and additional bar. All guests are accommodated in single rooms.
