The term “mixed bag” bird hunting, as related to Argentina, usually means 3 species of game birds; duck, dove, and perdiz. But now, one outfitter, River Plate Wingshooting, has carried the term “mixed bag” to a significantly higher level. When River Plate says “mixed bag” they are referring to 5 game birds or “5 Feathers” as they call it; meaning duck, dove, common perdiz, giant perdiz and pigeon. This is one of the few “5 Feathered” hunts in all of Argentina.
River Plate Wingshooting has been perfecting the art of wingshooting for over 25 years. We are now proud to offer you this incredible hunt in what has been called “The Mother Load” of wingshooting destinations—La Pampa Province, Argentina. No where else in the world can you experience the diversity and pleasure of such high volume shooting at such a large variety of game birds.
The 5-feather hunt consists of six days/five full shooting days and five nights.
Duck—Guests will see a continuous stream of decoying ducks where you can expect to shoot 5 boxes of shells in the morning and 3 boxes of shells in the afternoon. Charging into your spread of decoys you can expect to shoot one box of shells every 15-20 minutes at over 10 different species of ducks.
Dove—The dove hunting rivals that of any shooting experienced in the famed Cordoba area. Your shooting will be limited only by your personal limits or stamina.
Common Perdiz—Similar to the quail of North America, these explosive birds are hunted over beautifully trained dogs. The terrain is short-grassed pasture land where on a good day you can expect to see up to 20 points in an hour.
Giant Perdiz (or Montaraz)—Hunters will enjoy world class hunting for these birds. Hunting over trained dogs, you can expect 6-10 flushes every half an hour.
Pigeons—Offering dedicated pigeon shooting destinations, you can expect to shoot 6-8 boxes of shells during a two-hour shoot. The pigeons are shot over decoys placed on the ground, on stands, or on rotating carousels modeled after the carousels of Scotland and England.
Hunting of individual species of each of the aforementioned game bids can also be arranged.
Season: May to August.
Guests will stay in a two-estancia combination which offers the greatest convenience and proximity to the bird being hunted. La Escondida is a traditional Argentina estancia offering 8 private suites and is centered in one of the best waterfowl areas in all of Argentina. Los Pampas, also a famed big game ranch, has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. The lodge is located on the best pigeon and perdiz habitat in Argentina. Both estancias offer the absolute finest in dining and service.
The “5 Feathers” hunt is conducted in two provinces, Buenos Aires and La Pampa. However, transportation has been completely arranged and is totally transparent. After arriving into Buenos Aires International Airport you will be picked up at the airport and all transportation will be included in your hunt. You will depart via vehicle from the Buenos Aires airport and after a short drive and lunch you will hunt before arriving at the first lodge—La Escondida. The perdiz, dove and pigeon hunting is conducted from Los Pampas. Transportation to this estancia is also included. At the conclusion of your hunt, you will be taken by private charter aircraft back to Buenos Aires for your return flight home.

“La Pampeana is one Argentina’s premier lodges. Having traveled extensively in South America and specifically Argentina for wingshooting, La Pampeana offers the most diverse wingshooting I have seen anywhere in the Americas.
During my stay we shot high volume doves, pigeons over decoys, perdiz over pointers, driven and walk-up giant perdiz and ducks over decoys. I found all aspects of the shooting world class.
In addition to the hunting, the restored estancia is comfortable and well appointed. Chef Javier prepares gourmet meals that can be compared to dining at a five star restaurant.
The staff was attentive and the equipment first class. I can recommend La Pampeana with full confidence.”

“While the duck flights formed overhead, the perdiz flushed ahead, and the dove swarmed above, a symphony of organization involving a flotilla of vehicles, delightful guides, and gourmet food, kept us grinning… and wanting more.”
