Duck & Dove Hunting in Nicaragua
(November – March)
In the last several years, more and more hunters have discovered that Nicaragua offers some of the best wingshooting in Central America. Since the 1990’s Nicaragua hunting has gone from being “virtually unknown” to becoming “legendary.” Nicaragua serves as the wintering grounds for millions of ducks and offers expansive habitat perfect for dove hunting. Unspoiled lagoons and far-reaching farmlands make for robust bird populations. Dove hunting in Nicaragua means white-winged dove hunting…as a matter of fact hunters can expect 90% – 95% white-winged dove and 5%-10% mourning dove. Duck hunting in Nicaragua means plenty of blue and green teal with occasional pintails and widgeon. DCA’s exclusive Nicaragua hunting programs are complimented by beautiful accommodations, fantastic regional foods and a friendly staff of professionals to take care of all your needs in and out of the field. We offer three distinct programs designed to give hunters the most for their money.
The Managua Program
Great Dove & Duck Value Hunt!
Upon arriving at the Managua International Airport, hunters are met and transferred to our 4-star resort-style hotel…just ten minutes away! All of the dove and duck hunting is done within an hour of the hotel, and drives are made in comfortable air-conditioned vans on good paved roads. Mornings are typically reserved for dove hunting and afternoons for duck hunting. Doves are hunted in the area’s sorghum, sesame and peanut fields while ducks are hunted in ponds and lakes surrounding numerous rice fields.
After a long day in the field, unwinding is easy. The nightlife in Managua can be as mellow or as thrilling as you’d like. There are numerous first-class restaurants to choose from, serving both international and regional cuisine. The hotel also has a beautiful over-sized swimming pool, a full spa, several lounges and a Vegas-style casino!
The Chinandega Program
All Ducks, All the Time!
This program is for duck hunting enthusiasts! Many experienced international sportsmen consider this specific Nicaragua hunting program to be as good as it gets. Both the mornings and afternoons are slated for duck hunting. The hunting is done just 1.5 to 2 hrs north of Managua in the Chinandega / Leon Pacific coastal area. This strikingly beautiful beach area is home to Nicaragua’s best duck hunting. Brackish waters separate massive feeding areas that attract millions of ducks every year. Airboats and mud boats comfortably get hunters to the most productive blinds and honey holes. DCA’s Nicaragua duck hunting programs are all-natural, non-baited hunts designed by real hunters, for real hunters.
DCA hunters are typically accommodated at the charming Los Volcanes Hotel. This 4-star hotel has a wonderful restaurant, indoor and outdoor cantinas and spacious comfortable rooms. Most importantly it is perfectly situated in the heart of Nicaragua’s best duck hunting area.
The Heli-Hunt Program
Nicaragua’s Most Exclusive Duck & Dove Hunting
To call DCA’s Nicaragua Heli-Hunt Program “unique” would be the understatement of the year. Hunters have their choice with this program – hunt all ducks, hunt all dove or make it a mixed-bag hunt. Each morning hunters are flown, in private helicopters, to various duck and dove hunting hot spots. The helicopters put the hunters in the best possible hunting situations otherwise inaccessible by land. This not only eliminates drive times, giving hunters more time in the field, but also provides breathtaking Pacific views. Because of the versatility that the helicopters provide, the duck and dove hunting can be done anywhere between the Chinandega / Leon area and the country’s furthest northwest corner, where the Golfo de Fonseca literally unites Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras.
DCA hunters are accommodated at a strikingly beautiful 5-star Pacific marina resort…the only one of its kind in the country. All the regular 5-star amenities can be expected including gourmet cuisine, luxury rooms and impeccable service, but the beach environment promotes casual elegance and is family friendly. Non-hunters are welcomed and can enjoy beach views, tennis courts, sailing, kayaking, swimming, surfing, horseback riding and more.
Getting to Nicaragua
Just a 3-hr flight from Miami or a 2.5-hr flight from Houston, Nicaragua is one of the easiest world-class dove and duck hunting destinations for American hunters to reach. Both American Airlines and Continental offer convenient flights to Nicaragua’s capital city of Managua. For those hunting the Managua Program, only a 10-minute hotel transfer is needed. For the Chinandega Program, expect a comfortable 2-hour drive northwest upon arrival in Managua. Heli-Hunt hunters will simply take a helicopter ride from the Managua airport to the marina resort.
